Buri Ma's Page
burima01.jpg (13212 bytes) Premananda writes: Buri Ma, which means "old woman mother," lived with Baba for many years at the ashram. We were all very sad when she passed away a few years ago. She was a devout worshipper of Siva, and always carried with her a small stone image of Siva wherever she went which she worshipped several times daily with bel leaf and sandlewood paste.

She could be crotchety sometimes but everyone just laughed, and she did too in the end, for she had a heart of gold. Noyen would keep hidden for her some taboo leaves of tobacco, which she would chew, and which was supposed to be a total secret, and which everyone knew. We loved her as "our own," and she held the seat of eldest among us.
