Companion Pieces

Ah, with such sweet crystal gladness my maiden comes!
Deeply steeped in the dark of all.
She begs my song to join her silence,
as the morning flower petal meets the sun!

Touching, yet separate,
living, yet time shall take them,
and she bends her ear forward
and drinks my willing heart
into the womb from which I sprang!

I lay me down to love between the lovers,
My softly shining form entwined in their entwining arms,
My face among their mingled locks of hair.
What mystery for me is there
they shall not know, nor guess
the part I play in their sweet love's caress.

Breathless beyond breathless!
I breathe the wordless sound and sigh
and cry the wilderness aloud around us!
